Facebook Advertising

I recently read reports by a couple of pastors of what they considered the successful implementation of advertising campaigns on Facebook.

I have had a Facebook account for quite a while although I visit the site very infrequently, however, I have noticed the huge popularity of Facebook not only among teenagers but people of all ages.

So today I took the plunge and started a campaign with a grand total of 1 advertisement. Our target audience lives within 10 miles of Montreal and is aged 15 and up. Since our add was targeting users under 18 it required approval by the Facebook team.

Here are the results after 5 hours.

Our cost is based on the number of clicks through to our website. At the present time we are paying .24 per click. Facebook also allows you to set a limit that you are willing to pay per day which helps stay within any budget. Living in a metro area like Montreal Facebook seems to be one of the most cost effective advertising vehicles I have seen by virtue of the sheer volume of impressions.

My aim with this advertisement is not so much to produce clicks to the website as it is to get the church name in front of as many eyeballs as possible. With these very preliminary numbers it seems to be accomplishing that part of the goal.

Long term it remains to be seen what the concrete results of the ad will be in terms of visitors to church services.
