2009 French Evangelism Conference

Posted by: admin on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Cindy and I drove down to Trois Rivieres yesterday for the annual French Evangelism Conference. As always when the conference is in Trois Rivieres the local church did a marvelous job of hosting the conference.

It was great to spend time with other pastors and ministers who are involved in French ministries and to hear of what God is doing in their respective fields of labour.

The day started out with worship led by Scott and Liane Grant (Metro Missionaries to Montreal), welcome additions to the Quebec team. At the current time both Bro. & Sis. Grant are in French training courses while at the same time filling an interim pastoral role with the church in Trois Rivieres.

Bro. Grant spoke first in the morning followed by Bro. Dieudonne Kahozi. At the conclusion of the sessions there was a beautiful atmosphere of worship as those present gathered at the altar for prayer.

Following the open sessions there was a Ministers Meeting to discuss direction for future French Evangelism Conferences. While recognizing some of the difficulties in French evangelism there was a lot of very positive input even if they didn’t jump on my idea of having the next conference on the Caribbean island of Martinique. Oh well, I’ll try again next year!

Of course, being Pentecostal we followed up the meetings with dinner at the Buffet Continental. It is always special to be able to fellowship with and to learn from others who are involved some of these unique areas of ministry. It was great to have the Director of Multicultural Ministries for the UPCI, Rev. Don Hanscom, at the meetings and at lunch.

There was a great crowd out for the evening service and what a sense of expectancy there was. Bro. & Sis. Grant and Sis. Sully led the worship (Bro. & Sis. Grant did a great job of providing music for the conference) as we invited the Lord to move in our lives.

The service was emceed by Rev. Craig Sully the French Evangelism Coordinator and featured reports of events in the French works in West Island and Bathurst/Petit Rocher. It was great to hear Bro. Pio tell of what has been happening in the brand new work in Petit Rocher on the North Shore of New Brunswick. You can see pictures of their new building at Une Nouvelle Vie.

The keynote speaker was Rev. Steve Schobert, Executive Pastor of North Cities UPC in Garland Texas and a former missionary to France. He brought a great message about the fire of God through the scripture and in our lives.

Once again the local church outdid themselves with a lunch served upstairs in their fellowship area. I don’t have a picture of it but Sis. Vezina and the rest of the ladies did a great job.

We ended up getting home about 12:45 AM which made it a long day but one that was well worth the effort. The fellowship, the worship and the Word were all well worth the drive.

I’m already looking forward to next year when the conference will be in Edmundston, NB. N.B. The 2011 conference will be in Montreal.
