Choosing A Name

A brand is the way that an organization stakes out its territory in the minds of its consumers or adherents. If we don’t define our own brand someone else will define it for us and not always the way we want to be defined.

thumbnail An important component in branding is selecting a name, something which churches find themselves doing from time to time. A good name can add greatly to the public and members perceptions of the organization.

When choosing a name it is important to consider the following.

  1. The name should suggest something about what the church has to offer and the benefits of attending and/or belonging.
  2. It should be easy to pronounce, recognize and remember.
  3. It should be distinctive, standing out from the crowd.
  4. It should create a positive image in the mind of the hearer at first mention.

Any other factors?
