Why Here? Why Now?
Public Relations and the church - what do they have in common? Are they mutually compatible?
While in some streams of the church there is a deep aversion to any suggestion of public relations and the gospel, in a broad sense each one deals with the clear presentation of the vision, message and values of an organization to groups of people. When put in those terms with the substitution of the word “gospel” for “message” you can begin to see the close parallel.
I fell into the study of Public Relations Management as the result of a decision to take classes at McGill University here in Montreal. The program offered courses that were of interest to me personally and so I embarked on the journey, first as a hobby and then, once I began, as a program that could enhance my ministry in the church I pastor.
My goal is to take the principles of public relations from the classroom where they are designed for the business world and to process them to be leveraged by local churches with little or no monetary investment.
We have the greatest message in the world - getting it out to the world continues to be the challenge. It’s my desire that my musings can provoke some thought processes and ideas that can serve to help advance the gospel of Jesus Christ.
